UHF RFID innovative tool for manufacturer Freda, an IKEA producer in Lithuania

Viareggio, October, 26th 2010

Autepra, a system integrator based in Vilnius (Lithuania) announces the use of a new RFID system for pallets tracking in manufacturing company’s logistic chain.
SC “Freda” one of the oldest furniture industry companies in Lithuanian operating since 1880. At that time company was called “Elena” and it was major undertaking. In 2002 SC “Freda” was recognized to be a winner in the nomination “Lithuanians’ best exporter of the year”. Since 2004 SC “Freda” took a strong position ant it became one of the biggest furniture manufacturers in Lithuania. Since 2004 SC “Freda” works successfully concentrating all its’ sales for one customer (Sweden concern IKEA). Every month company ships more than 10.000 pallets.
RFID system is used to track products starting from packing till loading on truck. Finished products are placed on pallets; all the pallets are moved by conveyor to warehouse with short stop to pack them. In packing point pallets are tagged with UPM ShortDipole RFID tag. Tagged and packed pallets are moved on conveyor further to warehouse. Close to packing point, beside the conveyor is installed CAEN application RFID reader A829 tag ID is written automatically when passing this reader (the distance between packing and the reader is as short as possible to prevent mistakes, tag ID must be written as soon as possible after packing).

All RFID hardware is managed by Lithuanian ERP system Pragma. The time when tag ID is generated in ERP system and written to tag , is end of pallet production (new pallet is born and all steps to create new pallet is done automatically in ERP system) After writing the tag, the pallet is automatically moved from production stock to warehouse stock the conveyor goes directly to warehouse, pallets are taken from conveyor by forklifts and delivered to storage area.
Later RFID “gate” reader CAEN A948 is counting and controlling truck loading process. The reach truck driver has vehicle computer LXE VX8 with touch screen where he gets loading/unloading orders. Also reach truck driver gets information about loading mistakes or conflicts in real time. For inventory and manual operations with pallets in warehouse are used mobile computers NordicID PL3000 with RFID and barcode readers.

The new system automates manual processes this allows reducing labor expenses and increasing warehouse efficiency by having more transparent products logistic.
All business processes, concerning new RFID system were designed and realized by company Proringas the manufacturer of Pragma ERP system. All the RFID hardware supplied in this project is connected directly to Pragma ERP system.

“Innovative UHF RFID solutions gave us new tools to grow our business. UHF RFID is new technology in Lithuania but our project was done successfully and from first time we have reached higher transparency and automation in our manufacturing logistics. We are happy to work with company Autepra they have necessary know-how in this technology and good collection of partners manufacturers of all those reading, writing and interacting items.” says Mr. Virginijus Brundza, production manager of SC “Freda”
“This is another example on how RFID technology can be used for logistics improvement” says David Pallassini, Sales Manager of CAEN RFID “and once again Autepra together with Proringas did a very good job in integrating our equipments into Freda’s process”.
