Even if today you can choose a chipset platform on the market that implements most of the needed features and build the reader around it, you still have to face with many technical details, especially regarding the correct handling of Ultra High Frequency signals. So, even if you don\u2019t need to know every detail of the RAIN RFID air protocol<a href=\"http:\/\/crm.caenrfid.it\/#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[1]<\/a>, you still need very good radio frequency skills to obtain good reading performances and to comply with regulations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Reading tags at long distances requires two main things: generate a high power signal to \u201cactivate\u201d the tags and a good receiver sensitivity in order to be able to \u201cintercept\u201d the very small signals reflected by the tags<a href=\"http:\/\/crm.caenrfid.it\/#_ftn2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[2]<\/a>\u00a0but none of the two come for free. To generate high power levels you need to add a power amplifier (and other circuitry) between the chipset output and the antenna connector and assure that the resulting signal is clean enough in order to avoid interferences, to comply with regulations and to avoid the self jamming effect<a href=\"http:\/\/crm.caenrfid.it\/#_ftn3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[3]<\/a>. All these aspects require high radiofrequency skills for the design and a specific care on the manufacturing of the PCB (Printed Circuit Board).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\"><a href=\"http:\/\/caen.filanda.it\/en\/products\/hadron-r4320c\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"auto-style6\" src=\"http:\/\/caen.filanda.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/R4320C-Hadron-1.png\" alt=\"CAEN RFID Hadron R4320C module\" width=\"405\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">But, if you are looking to build a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rainrfid.org\/\">RAIN RFID<\/a>\u00a0reader or to embed the technology in your device, there is a simpler way.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caen.filanda.it\/\">CAEN RFID<\/a>\u00a0designed the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/caen.filanda.it\/en\/products\/hadron-r4320c\/\">Hadron (R4320C)<\/a>\u00a0module, a complete high performance\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rainrfid.org\/\">RAIN RFID<\/a>\u00a0reader in a compact form factor. Depending on the project, the computing platform can be custom designed or chosen from the many available on the market, such as an Arduino, a Raspberry or a BeagleBone just to cite some of the well-known ones.
